Overview
Dispensary owners can choose to earn a margin from patient orders placed in their dispensary. Doing so allows some flexibility to extend discounts to patients through dispensary and patient discounts. These discounts are compounded when used together and can't exceed the maximum discount available in your region. The maximum discount or profit margin available for US dispensaries is 35% and 25% for Canadian dispensaries.
Patients of no-profit dispensaries receive a 10% discount off products automatically. This discount can't be adjusted.
Tip! During Fullscript-run patient promotions, you can extend an additional discount to your patients for a set period of time. We take care of all marketing for practitioners, implement the discount, and address patient inquiries, making it possible for practices of any size to host successful promotions.
Extendable discounts
The following discounts are available for profit accounts only, are stackable, and reduce the profit margin earned from patient orders. Discounts apply to all products (MSRP) in the dispensary and can't be limited to select products or brands. Discounts can be changed at any time except during active Fullscript-run patient promotions.
- Your dispensary or dispensary-wide discount applies to all patients in the dispensary — change it here!
- Individual patient or client discounts apply to individual patients. This discount can be set when adding or importing new patients and can be updated for existing patients from their patient profile.
- First product order discounts apply to individual patients and extend additional savings on the patient's first product order only.
- Promotional discounts apply to all patients in your dispensary during Fullscript-run patient promotions only. This discount increases patient savings for a limited time. If enrolled, this discount is enabled/disabled as the promo begins and ends.
Note: The maximum discount available for US dispensaries is 35% and 25% for Canadian dispensaries. Increasing patient discounts reduces your profit margin and vice versa.
Setting a dispensary discount
Your dispensary discount can be updated at any time and offers a discount to all patients in your dispensary. Changes are reflected in your patient accounts immediately and can't be retroactively applied to orders made before the changes were applied.
To adjust your dispensary discount:
- Open the practitioner menu by clicking your avatar or initials. On mobile devices, click the menu ( ), then your name at the bottom to open the menu.
- Click Dispensary settings, then select Payments.
- Adjust your desired profit margin by clicking the pencil icon ( ) beside Your store's profit margin. The difference is the dispensary discount offered to all patients in your dispensary.
Profit margin v. patient discount example
Increasing your profit margin decreases the dispensary-wide patient discount and vice versa. In the example below, a US dispensary selects a profit margin of 25%, offering a 10% discount off the MSRP of products for all patients. If decreasing to a 20% profit margin, the discount would increase to 15% in all patient accounts immediately and stack with any individual discounts applied to the patient's profile (up to the maximum available in your region).

Providing patient discounts while creating patients
Unlike a dispensary discount, providing a patient discount won't impact any other patient's discount in your dispensary. You can add a patient discount as patients are created or by editing an existing patient's profile.
Tip! You can add patients to your dispensary individually, import patients in batches, or while creating new treatment plans.
To provide a patient discount while adding a new patient:
- While creating a new patient, click Additional product savings.
- From the Additional product savings menu, select a patient discount.
- Finish the patient's profile and create the patient, or create them and start a new prescription. Prices will be reflected in treatment plans, general wellness protocols, and patient catalogs at the discounted rate.

Note: Patient and dispensary discounts are stackable and apply to all purchases made by the given patient. Discounts can't exceed the maximum discount for your region.
Adjusting discounts for existing patients
Patient discounts can be added or edited for existing patients at any time. Changes are reflected in patient accounts immediately.
To adjust a patient's discount:
- While on the Patients page, use the search field to look up the patient profile.
- Select the patient from the search results.
- Click Edit profile.
- Under Additional information, click + Additional product savings and select a discount.
- Click Save patient.

Providing first product order discounts to patients
First product order discounts can motivate your patients to get started on their wellness journeys! You can provide a first product order discount while creating a patient and to any patient who hasn't already placed their first product order.
To provide a first product order discount while creating a patient:
- While creating a new patient, click + 1st product order discount.
- From the 1st product order discount menu, select a discount.
- Finish the patient's profile and create the patient, or create them and start a new prescription. Prices will be reflected in treatment plans, general wellness protocols, and patient catalogs at the total discount rate.
