Specialty labs experience

Patients

Overview

We partner with specialty labs like Precision Analytical (DUTCH), Diagnostic Solutions, Genova, 3X4 Genetics, and Doctor’s Data to offer at-home testing for your convenience. Specialty tests are mailed directly to your door inside a kit that includes everything you need to complete your testing and send it back to the lab for processing.

No matter which lab you’ve ordered from, your specialty test kit will include:

  • All the materials necessary to collect and ship back your sample
  • A requisition form with your test and demographic information, or QR code to fill out your information online
  • Easy-to-follow instructions
  • Pre-paid return packaging to mail your test kit back to the lab

Pay for your testing

After your provider creates your testing recommendation, you’ll receive an email with a link to view their plan.

If your provider hasn’t paid for your testing upfront, you’ll first complete payment through a secure checkout process right from your Fullscript account. Use our checkout and payment guide for detailed step-by-step instructions.

Note:

All lab testing on Fullscript is cash-pay only and is not reimbursable with insurance. This includes direct insurance reimbursement and retroactive reimbursement through a Superbill.

Fullscript doesn’t determine HSA/FSA eligibility for lab tests. Patients should check with their plan administrator to confirm HSA/FSA coverage.

Track your test kit shipment

After you or your provider pays for your testing, you’ll receive tracking within 24 hours so you can monitor the progress of your shipment. Tracking is sent via email, and can also be found on the Order history page in your account. Find your order and click Track package to track your order on the courier’s website.

Note:

Labs can only be shipped within the mainland US except patient addresses in the following states: NY, NJ, RI, and HI.

Follow your testing instructions

Each specialty test has unique instructions. You’ll have access to these instructions in your Fullscript account, and a paper version will be inside your test kit.

Your instructions include everything you need to know about preparing for your test, collecting your sample, and sending it back to the lab. Many lab tests have specific preparation requirements to ensure accurate results. Instructions may include guidance on:

  • How and when to collect your sample
  • Fasting requirements
  • Foods to avoid
  • Fluid intake
  • Supplements/medications to pause

Your provider may have added a personalized message for you based on your medical history. You can see this by reviewing the full plan:

Make sure to follow your preparation and collection instructions exactly as they are written, unless otherwise noted by your provider.

Completing your requisition form

Your requisition or test order form is inside your test kit. It includes information about you, your provider, and the test ordered. This form helps lab companies know who the sample belongs to and how to process it when it arrives to them.

We’ve pre-filled most of the form for you including all your relevant information, your provider’s information, and the tests ordered.

Most tests have a section that you’ll need to fill-in that logs the date and time you collected your sample. Completing this section is crucial to the labs correctly processing your sample.

Note:

Scheduling a blood draw (if needed)

If your lab test requires a blood draw, schedule one at home or the office with our mobile phlebotomy partner, GetLabs. After your kit arrives, schedule your blood draw right from your Fullscript account. Follow this step-by-step guide to book your appointment.

Tip!

If you’re in Arizona, and are looking to schedule a blood draw for your testing, follow this guide.

GetLabs is available for all the tests offered on Fullscript, including both specialty test kits and Quest Diagnostics.

Quest and Labcorp locations don’t draw for test kits from specialty lab companies like Genova, Doctor’s Data and Diagnostic Solutions. If you need help finding an alternative option for your blood draw, please contact our support team

The labs support team at Fullscript will reach out to you via email when your test kit has been delivered to ensure you have a local blood draw option that works best for you.

Mailing your test kit back to the lab

Now it’s time to send your test kit, including the requisition form and the sample, back to the lab. Inside your test kit, you should find:

  • Pre-paid return packaging
  • A shipping label (sometimes already attached to the return packaging)
  • Ice packs for samples that are heat-sensitive

Follow your specific testing instructions to learn how you should package your test kit and if any pre-frozen ice packs (included in your kit) are needed to ensure the sample is received in good condition. Packages should be completely sealed, with the return label visible before mailing.

Tip!

Make sure to include your completed requisition form when mailing your test back to the lab. Sending tests without this form runs the risk of samples being discarded and a recollection being required.

Returning kits to Doctors Data, Diagnostic Solutions, and Genova

For these labs, you’ll return your test kit using FedEx. You can schedule a FedEx pick-up by calling 1-800-463-3339. Samples are time-sensitive and shouldn’t be mailed using a FedEx dropbox. Drop boxes may result in your sample being discarded. Please note any specific instructions regarding days of the week you shouldn’t mail your kit. Some labs require shipping Monday-Thursday to ensure samples are received before the weekend.

Returning kits to Precision Analytical (DUTCH)

Precision Analytical (DUTCH) uses UPS as their return carrier. You can bring your Precision Analytical kit to a UPS location or use a dropbox.
