Specialty labs experience

Patients

Overview

We partner with specialty labs like Precision Analytical (DUTCH), Diagnostic Solutions, Genova, and Doctor’s Data to offer at-home testing for your convenience. Specialty tests are mailed directly to your door inside a kit that includes everything you need to complete your testing and send it back to the lab for processing.

No matter which lab you’ve ordered from, your specialty test kit will include:

  • All the materials necessary to collect and ship back your sample
  • A requisition form with your test and demographic information, or QR code to fill out your information online
  • Easy-to-follow instructions
  • Pre-paid return packaging to mail your test kit back to the lab

Pay for your testing

After your provider creates your testing recommendation, you’ll receive an email with a link to view their plan.

If your provider has not paid for your testing upfront, you will first complete payment through a secure checkout process right from your Fullscript account. Use our checkout and payment guide for detailed step-by-step instructions.

Note:

All lab testing on Fullscript is cash-pay only and is not reimbursable through insurance. This includes direct insurance reimbursement, retroactive reimbursement through a Superbill and HSA/FSA coverage.

Track your test kit shipment

After you or your provider pays for your specialty testing, you’ll receive an email with a tracking number within 24 hours so you can easily monitor the progress of your shipment. Tracking notifications are sent to the email address you use to log into your Fullscript account. You can also return to the Order history page in your account for tracking information. Find your order and click Track package to track your order on the courier’s website.

Orders are shipped within one business day from a Fullscript distribution center. If you’ve ordered multiple specialty test kits or testing plus supplements, your entire order should arrive in a single box. Packages will be delivered by UPS, FedEx, or USPS. Please refer to the delivery window displayed in the checkout at the time your order is placed for a delivery estimate.

Note:

Labs can only be shipped within the mainland US except patient addresses in the following states: NY, NJ, RI, MI, OK, HI and AK.

Follow your testing instructions

Each specialty test has unique instructions. You’ll receive these instructions in both your Fullscript patient account and a paper version inside your physical test kit.

Your instructions include everything you need to know about preparing for your test, collect your sample and send it back to the lab. Many specialty tests have specific preparation requirements to ensure your results will be accurate. These instructions can include guidance around:

  • How and when to collect your sample
  • Fasting requirements
  • Foods to avoid
  • Fluid intake
  • Supplements/medications to pause

In your plan, your provider may have also added their own personalized message for you based on your medical history. You can access this by reviewing the full plan:

If your provider has any custom instructions, you’ll find them here.

Make sure to follow your preparation and collection instructions exactly as they are written, unless otherwise noted by your provider. If you have any questions about testing instructions, please contact Fullscript support and our labs experts will guide you through this process.

Complete your requisition form

Your requisition or test order form is inside your test kit and includes information about you, your provider, and the testing ordered. This form helps the lab companies know who the test sample belongs to and how to process it when it arrives back at the lab.

We’ve pre-filled most of the form for you including all your demographic information, your provider’s information, and the tests you’ve ordered.

Most tests have a section that you will need to hand-fill that logs the date and time you collected your sample. Completing this collection section is crucial to the labs correctly processing your sample.

Note:

Questions about filling out your requisition form or can’t find it in your kit? Our labs support team is here to help! Contact us at any point if you’re unsure how to proceed.

Schedule a blood draw (if needed)

If your specialty testing requires a blood draw (also called phlebotomy), our team will ensure you have a local option if your provider’s office doesn’t offer it.

Please contact the labs support team for help locating a blood draw option.

Mail your test kit back to the lab

Congrats, you’ve completed collecting your sample! Now it’s time to send your test kit, including your requisition form and the sample, back to the lab. Inside your test kit, you should find:

  • Pre-paid return packaging
  • A shipping label (sometimes already attached to the return packaging)
  • Ice packs for samples that are heat-sensitive

Follow your specific testing instructions to learn how you should package your test kit and if any pre-frozen ice packs (included in your kit) are needed to ensure the sample is received in good condition. Packages should be completely sealed, with the return label visible before mailing.

Tip!

Make sure you include your completed requisition form before mailing your test kit back to the lab. Sending tests without this form runs the risk of your samples being discarded and a full recollection being required.

Returning kits to Doctors Data, Diagnostic Solutions, and Genova:

For these labs, you’ll return your test kit using FedEx. You can schedule a free FedEx pick-up by calling 1-800-463-3339. Samples are time-sensitive and shouldn’t be mailed using a FedEx dropbox. Drop boxes may result in your sample being discarded. Please note any specific testing instructions on days of the week you shouldn’t mail your kit. Some labs require shipping Monday-Thursday to ensure samples are received before the weekend.

Returning kits to Precision Analytical (DUTCH):

They use UPS as their return carrier. You can bring your Precision Analytical kit to a UPS location or use a dropbox.

Sample processing times vary for each lab company based on the type of tests you ordered. Specialty labs often require more advanced processing than basic bloodwork before you receive your results. We’ll notify you by email once your provider has reviewed the results.

You’ll also have access to your lab testing results in the Labs section of your account and clicking View Details next to the test.
