Reflex testing

Providers

Reflex testing simplifies follow-up testing by triggering additional tests when needed and brings more of your diagnostic workflow into one platform. Providers can use reflex options for clinical precision, and provide patients with a faster experience if additional testing is required. The result is better diagnostic accuracy, streamlined workflows, and more comprehensive care, all from the Fullscript platform.

Some Quest Diagnostics tests include reflex testing, where additional testing is triggered based on the results of the initial lab. Patients will receive one consolidated lab order, so all results stay in one place for easier access.

Sending a plan with reflex testing

Sending a reflex test follows the same steps as any other lab test. If additional testing is triggered, the patient is automatically charged based on the consent they provided during checkout.

To send a reflex test:

  1. Click Labs in the navigation bar.
  2. Click Catalog.
Clicking into labs catalog
  1. Find and select the test you’d like to add.
  2. For reflex tests, under the test details, you’ll find information around what reflex testing is, what biomarkers are tested, and results will trigger a second test.

The patient experience

If an order includes reflex testing, the patient will be asked to consent to potential additional charges before adding the test to their cart. This consent covers any follow-up testing that may be required based on their initial results.

If a patient’s test reflexes, the same blood sample will be used. The cost of the reflex test is charged automatically to the payment method on file, based on the patient’s prior consent.

Note:

Both patients and providers are notified if a reflex test is required.
