Lab trends in the patient profile

Providers

Trends gives you one view of a patient’s biomarker results across their test history, so you don’t have to open each lab order individually. Trends is available to practitioners and isn’t visible to patients.

Trends brings together supported lab results from the patient’s profile, including:

  • Labs ordered through Fullscript: Results from Quest Diagnostics, Access Medical Laboratories (AML), and Access Labcorp Draw. AML results are included even though AML tests don’t have interpretations.
  • Uploaded lab results: Results uploaded to the patient’s profile by you or your patient. Learn more about uploading and managing external lab results.
  • Rupa orders: Orders that moved to Fullscript with your account, including orders that were resulted on Rupa. Results imported into Rupa from outside labs aren’t included. Learn more in Labs on Fullscript: Quickstart guide for Rupa practices.

For supported results with lab interpretations, you can view a biomarker's full trend graph from the individual lab result. Learn more in Lab interpretations and trends.

The Trends page opens from within the patient’s profile.

To view a patient’s lab trends:

  1. Click Patients in the left-hand navigation.
  2. Search for and select your patient.
  3. In the Labs section of their profile, click View trends.

Use the grid to compare biomarker results across test dates:

  • Rows: Each row represents a biomarker. Biomarkers are grouped by Health category, with those without an assigned category listed under Other.
  • Columns: Each column represents a test date.
  • Results: Each result appears in a colored pill with an icon indicating its range status. A dash (—) means the biomarker wasn’t tested on that date.
  • Trend charts: When a biomarker has enough results to plot, a small trend chart appears next to its name.
Tip!

Hover over a result to see its value and unit, source, test date, and range status.

By default, Trends shows the three most recent dates that have results, or the three most recent months in Month view. Click Load older results to add three more columns at a time. A biomarker won't appear until the columns containing its results are loaded.

Searching and filtering results

Use the controls above the grid to narrow the results you see:

  • Search biomarkers: Enter a biomarker name.
  • Health category: Select one or more categories.
  • Ranges: Select any combination of range options.
    • Optimal: Within the optimal range.
    • Suboptimal: Outside the optimal range but within the lab's standard reference range.
    • Out of range: Outside the lab's standard reference range.
    • Range unavailable (grey): No usable reference range came with the result.
  • Day / Month: View results by test date or group them by calendar month. If a biomarker has multiple results in the same month, Month shows the most recent result.

Understanding reference ranges

Each result is compared with the reference range that came with that specific result. Because ranges can vary between labs and tests, the same biomarker can have different range statuses across test dates.

  • Range unavailable: This status appears when Fullscript doesn’t have a reference range it can use for the result, including results from labs ordered through Fullscript. For uploaded results, Trends uses the range on the original lab report. If that report includes a range but the result shows Range unavailable, contact our support team.
  • Units and trend charts: Units aren’t converted in Trends. Each value appears in the unit reported by the lab. The small trend chart only plots results that use the same unit. Results using a different unit still appear in the grid but aren’t included in the chart.
