Templates or protocols
Save time sending supplement plans by applying a framework that includes products, customized dosage and duration instructions, attachments, and a customized message.

After creating a template, you can apply it to an individual plan or a multi-patient plan to send plans with just a few clicks. You can also share your templates with other colleagues in your dispensary, supporting patient wellness across your whole practice.
Tip! Our in-house integrative medical advisory team has curated evidence-based templates that you can explore in the platform and from within Fullscript's Knowledge Center.
After creating new protocols, you can share wellness protocols with patients to provide access to common plans without the need for an appointment. Protocols can also be shared with colleagues in your dispensary to share knowledge across teams and their patients, supporting wellness across the entire clinic.

Creating new templates or protocols
Before you continue, please select the button below that matches the terminology you see in your account:
To build a new template:
- Click Build plan.
- Click + Create template.
- Create your template the same way you would create a supplement plan, adding products, resources, a message snippet, etc.
- Give your template a title, and manage who can access it. You can share access with all staff, with specific colleagues, or keep it private.
- When you're finished, click Save template.
To build a new shareable protocol:
- Select the downward arrow ( ) to the right of the New prescription button, then select Build shareable protocol. On mobile devices, select the file icon ( ), then Build shareable protocol.
Tip! Depending on your dispensary terminology settings, you may see the term 'recommendation' instead of 'prescription' in your account.
- Name the protocol by giving it a name, and add products, attachments, and a message snippet. To view and apply attachments and snippets, select Attach patient resources. See The supplement plan tool support article to learn more about completing these steps.
- When finished, select Create protocol from the bottom right-hand corner of the page and it's ready to use!
Creating new protocols in the supplement plan tool
New protocols can also be built out directly in the supplement plan tool following the same steps to create a new prescription. In a blank supplement plan, add products, advanced dosage instructions, a custom message or snippet, and attachments. When finished, select the menu to the right of the Send prescription button ( ), and select Save as protocol. Add a name, then click Save protocol.

Tip! With a couple of clicks, you can now share protocols with multiple patients at once or your entire patient list. Learn more about shareable wellness protocols.
Creating templates or protocols from existing plans
Before you continue, please select the button below that matches the terminology you see in your account:
Multi-patient plans can be saved as templates to save time creating new supplement plans in the future.
To save a multi-patient plan as a template:
- Move your cursor over the Plans tab, and click on Shared plans in the dropdown.
- Click on the multi-patient plan you'd like to save, which will open a drawer from the right of the page.
- At the bottom of the drawer, type in a name for the template, then click Save.
Note: You can only create a new template from a multi-patient plan. This is to avoid sending any personal information for a specific patient to other patients or colleagues.
If you've sent a supplement plan to a patient that you'd like to reuse for other patients, consider saving it as a protocol to save yourself time later.
To save an existing prescription as a protocol:
- Search for a patient and select their name to view their profile.
- Find the supplement plan you'd like to use as a protocol and click View details.
- Click Options ( ).
- Select ( ) Save as protocol.
- Add a protocol name.
- Click Save protocol.
Applying templates or protocols to new supplement plans
Before you continue, please select the button below that matches the terminology you see in your account:
To apply a template to a new supplement plan:
- Click Build plan.
- Choose between an Individual plan or a Multi-patient plan.
- Click Apply template which will open a drawer on the right.
- Select a template.
- Click Apply template and click the 'X' to close the drawer.
- Make any changes you need to, then click Send to patient when finished.
Note: For a multi-patient plan, click Publish plan to complete the supplement plan.
To apply a saved protocol to a new supplement plan:
- Click New prescription to start a new supplement plan.
- Select an existing patient or add a new patient.
- Select Apply protocol. You can apply protocols from your own library, Fullscript protocols curated by our Integrative medical advisory team, or protocols shared with you by colleagues.
- Search for a protocol, then select Apply. Repeat this step to apply additional protocols to a single supplement plan.
- Once applied, add/remove products, adjust dosages and quantities, and add a personalized message.
- When finished, click Send prescription or place an order right away by clicking Checkout.
Tip! Click Preview to preview a supplement plan before sending it.
Applying Fullscript templates or protocols to supplement plans

Templates created by Fullscript's Integrative Medical Advisory Team are developed using an evidence-informed approach and are available to practitioners directly in the supplement plan tool.
Note: You should use your clinical judgment to customize these plans and determine if a plan is appropriate for a patient.
To apply a Fullscript template to a supplement plan:
- When building a supplement plan, click Apply template.
- Scroll down in the drawer to the Made by Fullscript section, and click on the template you'd like to apply.
- Review the template then click Apply template.
- Make any necessary changes to customize the plan, then click Send to patient when finished.
Note: For a multi-patient plan, click Publish plan to complete the supplement plan.
Fullscript protocols created by our Integrative Medical Advisory Team are developed using an evidence-informed approach and are available to practitioners in the supplement plan tool.

To apply a Fullscript protocol to a supplement plan:
- In a supplement plan, select Apply protocol.
- Select the Fullscript protocols tab.
- Click View to preview a protocol and Apply to add it to the supplement plan in progress.
Tip! This action can be repeated to apply multiple protocols to a single prescription.
- Once applied, add/remove products, adjust dosages and quantities, and add a personalized message.
Editing and deleting saved templates or protocols
Before you continue, please select the button below that matches the terminology you see in your account:
To modify or delete a template in your account:
- Move your cursor over the Plans tab and click on Shared plans in the dropdown.
- Click on the Templates tab.
- Click the template you'd like to edit or delete.
- Click Delete to delete the template or Edit to modify it.
To modify or delete a protocol in your account:
- Hover over Prescriptions and click Protocols. On mobile devices, tap the menu ( ), followed by Prescriptions, then Protocols.
- Search for the protocol you'd like to change or delete.
- Hover over the protocol and select the more options icon ( ).
- Select Edit to make changes, or Delete to remove it from your dispensary. Editing a protocol will not make changes to active prescriptions where the protocol was applied.
